The NASA space program has accomplished many things such as man walking on the moon and landing rovers on Mars. NASA has also developed many technologies through these accomplishments, some of which advanced sports equipment, leading to changes in the sports themselves.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was established on July 29th, 1958, and became operational on October 1st of the same year. NASA’s purpose is to better understand the universe and advance sciences related to space exploration. Some of the scientific breakthroughs that advanced space exploration also have household uses. Temper foam, commonly known as memory foam, was originally used in the seats of spacecrafts to absorb the impact when the shuttle took off from the launch pad. It is now used in mattresses, the cushioning in football helmets, shin guards, and much more. While NASA does not get paid by companies for licensing of their inventions or technology, they have an estimated 7:1 economic return for every dollar spent. Sports-supply companies have gone through a lot to make their products the best, and they're constantly getting better. Every year, hundreds of new basketball shoes are released, and every year they get more comfortable or more stable, sometimes because of advances NASA has made. Sports-supply companies are making sports safer every time a new shoe or football helmet is released. While NASA has developed a lot of very important technologies such as the common microchip, many of their technological advancements have made sports more enjoyable or safer. This website will be about the sports-side of NASA developments.
